Thursday…Bla Not Much of a Run

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, “Where have I gone wrong?” Then a voice says to me, “This is going to take more than one night.” ~Charles M. Schulz

Do you ever lay awake at night, wondering what is going on in your life?  What have I done and how can I make things better?  I guess the truth is that you can’t think about where you have gone wrong.  You have to think about what you can do right.  You have the power to make tomorrow a new day.

I have been pondering over what I have done wrong with running a lot lately…along with everything else in life. I lost sight of what I was doing right.  Truth is, I am having a lot of fun and I am living a great life.  I wish I were as fast as I was last year, but I will get back there if I put my heart into it.  I need to believe in myself and not let life and my past get me down.  I think it is a great idea.

Soooooooooo I would love to become an Oiselle Athlete… I have ben talking to the company for a while and I think it is a great company.  I think their clothes are adorable and I think it is awesome Lauren Fleshman and Kara Goucher are both Oiselles…I am not good enough for the Olympic standards by any means but I would love to inspire people and be an awesome role model for my students.  I teach in the city and I was sad to learn most of my students do not want to go to college.  I also want to get back into volunteering and fundraising.  I want to be a positive role model for everyone and I hope I can convince some of my students to go to school because they are great kids and they have a lot of potential.

Here is my new running outfit.  I have the oiselle flyte shorts and the scantron strappy bra.

My shoes are still a work in progress….I like the top. I think it is really comfortable. I am not used to the flyte shorts, but I am looking forward to wearing them and I cannot wait!!!!!

I am sad I do not have my new bike yet. I hope I can pick it up next week….yippie!!!!!!! Until then I am just running and I have two half marathons next week… yippieeeee

National Running “Addict” Day

It’s unnatural for people to run around the city streets unless they are thieves or victims.  It makes people nervous to see someone running.  I know that when I see someone running on my street, my instincts tell me to let the dog go after him.  ~Mike Royko

Today is national running day and I am excited to get out of work today and put in some miles.  I think running is a great sport and it has helped me through a lot of crap in life.  If you have a chance, go out and run…you might like it.  If you look at it as torture and you are in shape, you are doing it wrong!  Why do you run?  I often wonder why I didn’t run from the time I could walk.  I was really missing out.  When I was in high school I ran track and I was pathetically slow and did not do well.  I was a little chubby.

Now I have people telling me I am too skinny. I think running is funny because I do not get as hungry as I used to…except in the winter when it is so cold that I need to scarf down a lot of food to keep from freezing. I have to admit the one thing I hate about being single is I always wake up cold in the winter!!!! I need more blankets. I also do not dress up a lot so when I do people think I am too skinny. I have really bony shoulders. Trust me, I can eat. If I were not living alone most of the time, I would probably weigh more because I would be cooking for someone else ha ha…I also like healthy food. My favorite snacks are bananas with banana butter. I like hummus and pita chips. Yummy!!!! I also gave up drinking and I think that made me lose some weight!

I went through a crappy marriage and I know I have talked about it but running helped me escape and it gave me the power to stand up and leave. I know it was the hardest thing I have done in life and I do not regret my decision. It was a lot of work to keep my marriage going…but it was extremely hard and a long process to escape.

Running is both refreshing and exciting. I remember winning my first race and I will never forget that moment. I won a coffee mug, some socks, and a gift certificate to fleet feet. I felt amazing. That was where I met one of my friends, Nancy! Nancy is a great runner and she is faster than I am 🙂 !!!!

In honor of National Running Day, here is my information for running this year…I think I am going to break 1000 miles of running this year ha ha ha…

Here is my cycling mileage for this year…I need to bike more and my foot is still bothering me since Sunday so I have not ran in a couple of days. I want to bike more and I sold my road bike this year. I am excited that I will be (cross my fingers) getting my new road bike next Friday. I am going to have two half marathons next weekend, but I am hoping for a reason to not go to one of them and go biking…imagine that!!!!!! I would consider skipping a race to go biking????? Strange things happen!!!! Here is my bike I hope!

car This is what my car looks like after a road trip!!!! It is a disaster. I need to clean it again. I did clean all of the garbage out and transform my car back into normal, but it gets messy. This past weekend I drove over 1400 miles to Virginia for the Run for the Dream series. It was a long drive and I know I sound like a broken record, but I am looking forward to not having garbage in the front seat. It would be nice to have someone in the front. I think it would be even more nice to have a good looking man in the front seat ha ha ha …..

I am excited to have logged over 500 miles already since March and I am upping my mileage for marathon training. I have issues because I have Lilly a lot and I cannot jog all of the time with her. It is not fair to her and the weather is so unpredictable!!!

What do you think? I have a race in Philadelphia on Saturday (A German Festival to follow )called the “1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Half Marathon” and “The New Paltz Challenge” in New York on Sunday. If you were me and you were going to be picking up your nice, new, shiny bike, would you skip one of your races? If so, which?

2/3 of the Way There

Getting lost to find myself has been the hardest and best thing I have done…in a long time!!!!!!

ImageI have been getting some “shit” about posting selfies…but I am by myself for races so it is hard to get a picture and I am not one of those people who likes to ask for a photo opportunity…Luckily, my friend was there and Kristin could take the picture…so here is a “non” selfie….I am sure I will still hear something.  Throughout my life, it has been hard enough gaining confidence, but I am writing this blog to share my experience with people and if you want a non selfie come and take a picture of me at a race so I do not have to do it myself!!!!!  Trust me, I would rather someone else take it.

So today marked my 2/3 of the way through my challenge of 18 half marathons this year.  I have to admit I am getting more sad because I am closer to finishing and what happens next?  Will there be more selfies heaven forbid?  I will still run and still blog, but it will not be as exciting.  I remember finishing my first half and I didn’t want to do another….now they are pure joy.

I am proud of myself…there I said it…I do not care if it makes me cocky.  I work hard and I am ambitious.  I meet a lot of neat people along the way and I get lost…ohhhhhhh I get lost.  Today I was on 695 and took a wrong turn.  I was supposed to take 395 north and ended up in downtown DC!!!!!!!  I am proud that my fear of congested traffic has died.  Image  I was so close to the Lincoln Memorial and I went by the Holocaust Museum…this is why I need to have someone with me lol…

So I have gotten lost a lot and I think I have gone through Gettysburg a lot since March….maybe it is a sign.

What will happen next?  Well I looked at my schedule and I have a flaw.  I am supposed to run these races under 2 hours but I found out that my 18th race is the Shipyard where I will be pacing 2:15….sooooooo what do I do?  Do I still count it because it will be my 18th, or do I null that one and count the next race?  What do you think?   I will have to do something to recap my races after 18…I think that as much as I wish I had bought a new bike, this is a great experience and I would not change it…I wish I had company and I would love to have company at other races…but what an adventure!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted my bike for sale and think I might be selling it this week…I am sad…but I will be getting another bike soon and I will make new memories

So I forgot to mention a few things that happened today…I was driving and realized wouldn’t it be awkward if you got pulled over with the song, “I Shot the Sheriff,” playing? I was in an area with a lot of people getting pulled over and that was playing….Also, people like to slam on their brakes!!!! I also realized some songs are just good…here is my song of the drive:

Run For The Dream Half Marathon #12/ 44

“You have to wonder at times what you’re doing out there.  Over the years I have given myself a thousand reasons to keep running. It comes back to where it started.  It comes down to self- satisfaction and a sense of achievement..” Prefontaine

kristoday was my 12th half marathon since march 8th…. It felt good but it was really hot!  The course went through colonial williamsburg and then through some nice trails.  I liked the shady trails.  The view was nice!!! It felt like I was in a frying pan and I drank a lot of Gatorade and water thanks to the awesome volunteers!!!

I would totally do this race again!  It was well organized and there were shuttle buses back to my car and there was plenty of food and porta johns!  I had trouble staying awake today to start at 7 because I drove 9 hours.  However, everyone was so nice and I did the Patriot’s Challenge!  I did the 8k yesterday and the half today…. I got three t shirts, three medals, a pass for Busch gardens, and a pass for Colonial Williamsburg….

I think I paid $125 for it a long time ago.  They offer great deals for military and someone carried a flag from each military branch.
…needless to say I died at the end and confess the coast guard  finished just ahead of me haha….

i am happy to report my fellow blogger and friend Kristin “Stamped With a Heart” came to see me finish… I had a great time with her and she is an amazing person.  I wish we lived closer because she is so much fun and finds the cutest clothes…. Not to mention he runs a 10k in 43 minutes…. I am jealous!!!! She is a great swimmer and I know she has some great achievements ahead!!!!!  I also can’t wait for her to have little kids hahahaha… She will make a great mommy I know it!

here is the course and here is my data!!!

Next year you should run this!!!

Here are some pictures from Colonial Williamsburg:
